This argument is relevant for two reasons:It takes into account the finite speed of propagation of light.

It supposes an evolving universe, in which the luminous rays have not yet reached us.

Poe’s reasoning is essentially correct.

How about Olbers’ paradox today? The darkness of night, according to current opinion, stems from three factors:The speed of light is finite.

The universe is not infinitely old.

The universe is expanding.

The first two points imply that Earth receives light from a finite number of stars, those included in a sphere of radius equal to the distance traveled by light from the birth of the universe until today. The third, on the other hand, implies an increase in the wavelength of the luminous rays received from distant stars. This modifies their properties, with a shift of radiation from the visible interval to that of the invisible. None of the three effects, taken individually, may resolve the paradox, which may only be explained when considered all together.
